Dolphin House + Orange Bay combo snorkeling trip Hurghada. Swim with wild dolphins then hit the island. $40 honest review from a grumpy expat.

Hurghada Dolphin House + Orange Bay Combo Snorkeling Trip | Best Dolphin & Island Tour

The van was late. Thirty five minutes. I timed it. Standard.

When we finally got to the marina, the diesel smell mixed with someone’s burnt coffee hit my nose. The boat engine coughed once, twice, then roared. We were off. Sorta.

Look, I’ve lived in Hurghada long enough to know that ‘dolphin guarantee’ is a marketing trick. But this combo trip – Dolphin House first, then Orange Bay – actually gives you a decent shot. Sometimes.

Why this Dolphin House and Orange Bay combo actually works (most days)

The captain heads straight to the Dolphin House area, a reef where wild bottlenose dolphins like to hang out. You sit on the bow, scanning the water. The crew spots them first – a fin here, a splash there. Then everyone jumps in. Chaos. But the kind you don't mind.

The dolphins are wild. They don't perform. Some days they swim right under you. Other days they couldn't care less. The music was loud, I forgot my earplugs again. The crew shouts directions. It's messy. It's also the realest animal encounter you'll get here.

To be fair, the snorkeling at Dolphin House reef is decent even if the dolphins play hide and seek. Coral gardens, parrotfish, the usual Red Sea suspects. The water clarity depends on wind and how many boats showed up – well, usually a lot.

Then you head to Orange Bay. White sand. Shallow turquoise water that looks heavily filtered. It's pretty. It's also rammed with tourists. Beach beds everywhere. A Coke costs four dollars – daylight robbery.

Lunch is served on the boat or the beach. Rice, grilled chicken, some salad that's seen better days. It fills a hole. Nothing more. But you're here for the dolphins and the island, not the food.

The combo works because you get two completely different things: wild animals in open water, then a postcard beach. Most trips cost around fourty dollars including pickup and lunch. Back home, that barely covers fish and chips for two.

The second snorkel spot near Orange Bay can be average. Too many feet stirring up sand. But the beach itself? Soft underfoot. Warm water. You'll take the same photo everyone else takes on those stupid swings.

The crew are alright. Not pushy. They know where the dolphins usually are. They just can't control the weather or the other thirty boats doing the same route.

Honestly, if you want a guaranteed dolphin show, go to a aquarium. But if you want a genuine, slightly chaotic Red Sea day – wild dolphins, crowded island, average lunch – this combo trip is your best bet.

A flat here costs less than a garage back in Manchester. And on a good day, having dolphins as neighbours? Not bad. Just saying.

Will I definitely swim with dolphins?

Not guaranteed. Dolphins are wild, free-ranging animals, and ethical operators follow no-chase protocols. Responsible boats will not pursue pods or crowd them. Many days do result in sightings, but if dolphins are resting or feeding elsewhere, your day focuses on superb reef snorkeling instead .

Is it worth going if we don't see dolphins?

Absolutely. Dolphin House offers some of the best reef snorkeling near Hurghada with 30–40m visibility and over 400 documented fish species. Even without dolphins, you'll experience world-class coral gardens
