Continue Browsing TripsWhy This 2-Day Luxor Tour with Hot Air Balloon from Hurghada Is Something Special
Most people do Luxor in one very long, very exhausting day. You leave at 4 AM, you rush through temples, you get back at 10 PM completely wrecked. It works, but let's be honest — you're barely awake for half of it.
This one is different.
You spend the night in Luxor. Two full days, a proper hotel, and to top it all off — a hot air balloon ride over the Valley of the Kings at sunrise. Yeah, you read that right.
You'll see everything: Karnak, Luxor Temple, Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's Temple, the Colossi of Memnon, and then some. But you'll actually have time to enjoy it instead of running from one site to the next like a maniac.
The balloon alone is worth it. Floating over ancient tombs while the sun comes up? That's the kind of memory you don't forget.
What to Expect on Your 2-Day Luxor & Balloon Tour from Hurghada
Day 1 – Hurghada to Luxor, East Bank & Overnight
Early morning pickup — around 5 AM. You'll drive to Luxor in a comfortable bus (about 4 hours). Once you arrive, you check into your hotel (3 or 4 star depending on the package), drop your bags, and head straight to the sights.
First up: Karnak Temple. It's huge, overwhelming, incredible. The hypostyle hall with all those giant columns? Yeah, that's Karnak. Your guide will walk you through it, then give you some free time to wander and take photos.
After Karnak, it's Luxor Temple. This one is smaller but more intimate, and it's right in the middle of the city. It's especially beautiful in the late afternoon light.
Then lunch at a local restaurant. After that, you check properly into your hotel, rest a bit, and maybe explore Luxor on your own in the evening. The night market near Luxor Temple is pretty cool.
You stay overnight in Luxor. Hotel included, breakfast included next morning.
Day 2 – Hot Air Balloon, West Bank & Return to Hurghada
Very early wake-up — around 4:30 AM. But trust me, it's worth it. You'll be picked up from your hotel, taken to the balloon launch site, and just before sunrise, you lift off.
You float over the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's Temple, and the green farmland along the Nile. It's quiet, peaceful, and absolutely stunning. The flight lasts about 30–45 minutes. When you land, there's a small celebration (it's a thing with balloon rides) and you get a certificate.
After breakfast, you head to the West Bank. You'll visit:
Valley of the Kings – three tombs included. Your guide will tell you which ones are best that day.
Temple of Hatshepsut – the famous terraced temple carved into the mountain.
Colossi of Memnon – quick photo stop with the two giant statues.
Then lunch, and after that, the drive back to Hurghada. You'll be at your hotel around 6–7 PM.
Two days, one balloon ride, zero rushing.
What You'll See on This Tour
Karnak Temple – massive, ancient, unbelievable. The largest temple complex in Egypt.
Luxor Temple – beautiful and illuminated at night if you go back after dark.
Valley of the Kings – where the pharaohs were buried deep in the mountains.
Temple of Hatshepsut – Egypt's most famous female pharaoh, her temple is stunning.
Colossi of Memnon – two giant stone statues just sitting there for 3,400 years.
Hot air balloon ride – sunrise over the West Bank. Absolute highlight.
Who Is This 2-Day Tour Perfect For?
Anyone who wants to see Luxor properly without feeling like a zombie. If you hate rushed day trips, this is for you. It's also great for:
Photographers (you get golden hour at the temples and sunrise from the balloon)
Couples looking for something romantic but still adventurous
Anyone who's ever said "I wish we had more time" on a day trip
People who want to do the hot air balloon but don't want to arrange it separately
Downside? It takes two days instead of one. Upside? You'll actually enjoy both days.
Tips to Make the Most of Your 2-Day Luxor & Balloon Trip
Bring layers. The balloon ride is early morning and cold — like really cold. But by midday at the temples, it's hot. A light jacket or hoodie for the morning, then shorts and a t-shirt for later.
Comfortable shoes are a must. You'll walk a lot over two days.
The balloon flight is weather-dependent. If it's too windy, they cancel for safety. It doesn't happen often, but if it does, you'll get a partial refund. Still worth the risk.
Bring water, sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses. Luxor sun is no joke.
For the balloon, wear closed-toe shoes. You land in a field, sometimes uneven ground.
If you want to go inside Tutankhamun's tomb in the Valley of the Kings, it's an extra ticket. Ask your guide.
